Karte-cho

Original policy last updated: 27 September 2026

StackWorks (the “developer”) handles information about users of the iOS/iPadOS app Karte-cho (the “app”), and information about clients that users record in the app, as follows.

1. Information received by the developer

The developer does not receive users’ information or the client information they record. The app has no account registration, advertising, analytics (usage analytics or external transmission of crash reports), or communication with the developer’s servers.

2. Recorded information and where it is stored

Users (salons) can record client names, name readings, contact details, birthdays, referral sources, notes, cautions such as allergies, visit records, service photos (which may include faces), and answers and signatures on consultation and consent forms. This information is stored only in the following places.

  • On the user’s device: photos, signatures and PDFs stay inside the app and are not saved to Photos. File protection prevents reading these files while the device is locked.
  • In the user’s own iCloud (Apple’s CloudKit): when signed in to iCloud, information is stored to synchronize the user’s devices. Names, readings, contact details, birthdays, notes, cautions, client-record text and form answers are saved to end-to-end encrypted fields. The developer cannot view the user’s iCloud data.
  • In destinations chosen by the user: exported backups, CSVs and PDFs are stored in the selected location (such as Files, iCloud Drive or an AirDrop recipient). Backups can be protected with a password.

3. Staff sharing

When a user selects “Share with staff,” iCloud sharing (CKShare) lets invited people view and edit the salon’s data. The salon owner manages invitations and removal. The developer does not receive the shared contents.

4. Use of device features

  • Camera: used only to take service photos.
  • Photos: only photos selected by the user are imported; the app does not save to Photos. Location and other metadata are removed during import.
  • Contacts: only information about people selected on the contacts screen is read.
  • Face ID/Touch ID: used only to unlock the app. Biometric information is not provided to the app or the developer.
  • Notifications: the user’s own reminders are displayed only on that device. Nothing is sent to clients.
  • App Store purchases: Apple processes purchases; the developer does not receive information that identifies the user.

5. For users (salons): clients’ personal information

The user (salon) manages the personal information recorded in the app. Under Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information, users must notify or publish purposes of use, obtain the person’s consent when recording health information (which may fall within special care-required personal information), manage security and respond to requests for access, correction or deletion. The app offers a data-handling guide, a client explanation template, consent templates, a PDF export for an individual client’s records and permanent deletion. The guide is general information, not legal advice.

6. For salon clients

To request access, correction or deletion of your own information, contact your salon. The developer does not hold client information and cannot fulfil these requests.

7. Deleting data

Data deleted in the app stays in the trash for 30 days before permanent deletion from the device and iCloud (emptying the trash deletes it immediately). Removing the app deletes local data. iCloud data can be deleted from iPhone Settings > Apple Account > iCloud.

8. Children’s information

This app is for businesses and is not directed at children.

9. Changes and contact
